LOSS and DOSS Survivor Services

Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors (LOSS)

The Lorain County LOSS Team is based on a national program which provides support to survivors bereaved by a suicide loss. For every suicide death, there are dozens of survivors left to make sense of it. Our team of trained and caring volunteers are present to help.

A suicide loss is often a shocking, life changing tragedy which leads to intense emotions, events and feelings. It’s important to build a strong support system as you experience the physical and emotional effects of grief. LOSS exists to be an installation of hope by providing resources, understanding and support.

Drug Overdose Survivors Support (DOSS)

The Lorain County DOSS team is based on a national model which provides support to survivors bereaved by a loss. For every overdose death, there are dozens of survivors left to make sense of it. Our team of trained and caring volunteers are present to help. Our team brings immediate support to families after a loved one’s death due to a drug overdose.

Drug overdose deaths are complicated for those left behind by an added layer of stigma. The aftermath of this type of death cannot be overlooked. First responders and the coroner’s office do not always have the resources to help the family, which is where our DOSS team bridges the gap and reduces the risk of unhealthy coping strategies.

If you have experienced a loss from suicide or drug overdose, please reach out to NAMI Lorain County.
